Exodus 16

Good afternoon y’all. Happy Monday 🙂 . Today we are looking at Exodus 16. In the chapter we see God supernaturally provide food for the Israelites.

Be blessed 🙂

The children of Israel, after the miracles God has done for them, started complaining about hunger. Somehow they had forgotten about the powerful God who delivered them from Pharaoh; the One who parted the Red sea could provide for them. So they started murmuring and complaining to Moses and Aaron.

“There in the desert they started complaining to Moses and Aaron, “We wish the Lord had killed us in Egypt. When we lived there, we could at least sit down and eat all the bread and meat we wanted. But you have brought us out here into this desert, where we are going to starve.”(Exodus 16:2-3 CEVUS06)

I ask myself, ‘how often do we complain and murmur just like the Israelites when we don’t get our way or things are not happening the way we expected?’
All the Israelites needed to do was to ask God for food instead they chose to complain and insult Moses and Aaron. Don’t we behave like that too? Instead of praying to God and asking him for help, we complain and murmur. I don’t know if we do it hoping that our complaining and murmuring will move God. There is no where in the bible that says murmur or complain to God, instead we are told to talk to God and cast our cares unto him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”.(Philippians 4:6 NIV)

“Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you”.(1 Peter 5:7 NIV)

God, in His mercy, heard them and sent them food from heaven. He clearly gave an instruction to test their obedience. They were meant to gather just enough food for the day. They were not meant to have any left overs except for the sixth day.

“The Lord said to Moses, “I will send bread down from heaven like rain. Tell the people to go out each day and gather only enough for that day. That’s how I will see if they obey me. But on the sixth day of each week they must gather and cook twice as much.” (Exodus 16:4-5 CEVUS06)

“I have heard my people complain. Now tell them that each evening they will have meat and each morning they will have more than enough bread. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.” (Exodus 16:12 CEVUS06)

God is able to meet our needs. We need to learn to trust and rely on His Power. Stop doubting Him. He gave the children of Israel food that they’ve never seen before. He sent down manna from heaven. God can still do the same for us. Philippians 4:19 says: “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus”.

They all heard the same instruction. Some chose to obey and others chose to disobey.

“Some of them disobeyed, but the next morning what they kept was stinking and full of worms, and Moses was angry.” (Exodus 16:20 CEVUS06)

“A few of the Israelites did go out to look for some, but there was none”. (Exodus 16:27 CEVUS06)

Obedience is a choice. Whatever choice we go for, there will be consequences. If we obey, there are good consequences and if we disobey there are bad consequences. Deuteronomy 30:19 says: “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”(NLT)

“Then the Lord said, “Moses, how long will you people keep disobeying my laws and teachings?”(Exodus 16:28 CEVUS06)

God is saying same to us today. How long will we keep disobeying his laws and teaching? How long are we going to keep 1 John 1:9ing everything we do. May God help us come to a point where we love him and desire to obey him more than we do our flesh. John 14:15 says: “If you love me, keep my commands”.

Dear Lord thank you for today. Please give us the grace to love You more and let our love for You cause us to
desire to obey You at all times, no matter the cost. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name we have prayed. Amen

Thanks for joining and I believe you have been blessed.

Have a wonderful day 🙂
