Exodus 1

Good morning y’all. Happy new year :).

So we made it to the 1st blog of the year. God is amazing 🙂 and I’m excited about  Exodus 🙂

Today, we start with Chapter 1. In this chapter, we see the children of Isreal prosper and flourish in Egypt. Pharoah frustrates the isrealites yet they continue to prosper. He asks the midwives to kill the the male children, but they refused and in return, God blesses the midwives and also increases the isrealites.

Be blessed as you read 🙂

Verse 1 -5 tells us of the children of Jacob that relocated to Egypt. These people were in a foreign land but yet they multiplied and prospered in the foreign land. Even after Joseph and his generation all died in Egypt, the children of Isreal kept on multiplying and filled the land.

Friends, wherever you find yourself this year, know that God is not limited by your location. He took the children of Isreal from their land to a foreign one and He prospered them there. God can prosper you wherever you are. He is the Omnipresent, All knowing God. If He has sent you there, He will surely make a way for you. Isaiah 43:19 says He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Sit still and enjoy the journey :).

As we read further, we are introduced to the new king who didn’t know about Joseph and all He did for Egypt. This new king, was jealous and afraid of the children of Isreal as they filled the land and were so prosperous in Egypt. Out of fear, the king asked for the Israelites to be treated harshly and used as slaves, but God had other plans :). In verse 12 we are told the more the Egyptians terrorised the isrealites, the more the isrealites became prosperous and multiplied.

“But the more the Egyptians oppressed the Israelites, the more they increased in number and the further they spread through the land. The Egyptians came to fear the Israelites”(Exodus 1:12 GNB)

Friends, just like the children of Isreal, God will cause you to continue to prosper no matter the attack the enemy sends your way this year. He will frustrate the enemies plans over your life. The Egyptians thought by frustrating the Isrealites they will decrease in number, yet the bible says they increased and spread out farther through the land. Don’t loose hope this year. Isaiah 54:19 says no weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper. Be encouraged God is on your side 🙂

From verse 15 -21 we are introduced to the Hebrew midwives. Oh, how I love these women. I am of the opinion they were Egyptians assigned to be midwives to the Hebrew women. These women were asked to do the unthinkable by Pharoah. He asked them to kill every male Isrealite child born at birth. But these women refused to obey Pharoahs orders because they had the fear of God in them.

“But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive”. (Exodus 1:17 KJV)

Now, I ask myself if they were Egyptians how did they become God fearing? Perhaps, the answer lies in the fact that they had been relating with the Isrealites and have come to see the power of God at work in their lives. As a result, they had come to understand that their God is the only true God.

Friends, our lives should be a witness to others. People should see us and see the glory, power and character of God reflected through us and as a result desire to want to know our God.

These Midwives made a bold decision to defy Pharoah; a decision they knew would cost them a lot. This is Pharoah we are talking about! The most powerful man in Egypt asks you to do something and you defy him? Yet the Hebrew midwives chose to honor God above Pharoah. Can you imagine what would have happened to the Isreal race, if these midwives obeyed Pharoah? There would be no Moses, Joshua or David. I am sure it wasn’t an easy decision for them to make, knowing the potential consequence of their disobedience if Pharoah was to find out.

Friends, how many of us are willing to stand for what is right this year? How many of us will not compromise our stand with God this year in order to please man? Defying Pharaoh could have cost the midwives their lives, but they didn’t think about that. Their concern was pleasing God rather than pharaoh and I’m reminded of Daniel and the Hebrew boys. They also made up their minds not to defile God.

The result of their obedience was amazing. Bible says….”So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families“.(Exodus 1:20-21). There is always a blessing in our obedience. It might not seem or look that way in the beginning but God always Honors those who honor Him.

Friends, as you start this year, make up your mind to please God alone and not man. Ask for his help to always choose to do what’s right as opposed to what man wants from you. And as you do, I believe God will bless you in return.

Dear Lord, we thank you for today and the grace to come before your feet to learn of you. We thank you for we know, you are not limited by our location or position. We thank you for we know, none of the plans of the enemies for us this year will prosper. We pray for the grace to choose you over any other thing; that we will seek to please you at all times. Thank you God and may our lives represent you today. In Jesus Name. Amen

Thank you for joining today. Pls feel free to leave your thought on the chapter 🙂
